I’m a lover of the world and far off places who is so excited that you’re here. Looking forward to sharing more of my world with you and all the things I love. I hope this site really does feel like a wellness oasis right here on the internet.
I originally posted this on Instagram in early June during the beginning of the current Black Lives Matter Movement, these thoughts will continue to ring true and be important as we move forward. There is no option to go back to “normal”, we need to all strive to create new norms and much better ways of living within the world. Let’s all continue to focus on how we can support Black people and continue to further fight for equity.
Leverage Our Buying Power: Let’s support the businesses that genuinely support us.
Strive for Financial Freedom: This will help us continue to have a seat at the table and leverage our buying power while creating generational wealth.
Expand Our Horizons: We should continue to get educated about how we can make change. We have no other option but to continue to stand up for ourselves.
Support Each Other: Collaboration over competition. We should be lifting each other up and finding ways to amplify the voices of each other.
Share Black Creativity & Joy: Continue to share the beauty and creativity within our community.
Amplify Black Voices: This should not end. Continue to find ways to use your voice to amplify ours. Share our stories, share our content and most importantly give us credit.
Continue The Hard Work: Studies have shown that new habits take even longer than 21 days to form, so stick with this for the long haul. We need allies not just now but for years to come. Ask yourself the hard questions around what you have been doing and can be doing to support.
Donate: Continue to support the organizations you’ve given to during this time. Can you afford a recurring donation? Have you used Smile.Amazon.com to leverage your purchases to make an impact? Does your company match donations?
Support Black Businesses: If you see a great Black Owned Business, find ways to support them either by buying their products or by just sharing your find. If you’re looking for Black owned businesses, SupportBlackOwned.com is a great resource.
Vote: If you are able to do so, now is the time. It’s so important for us to use our voices to make large scale change in America.
Educate The Youth: Young people of all races need to understand the importance of what is happening now and has been happening for many years. Young people today will be responsible for making change tomorrow.
Be Kind: This is a lot to process so do not shame people for doing their work privately or at a different speed. Remember, the goal is real lasting change not just a post on social media.
Strive for Diversity & Inclusion: Push back and continue to educate brands and people.
There are tons of places to donate and make an impact but here’s a list of organizations to start with. As you’re donating, it’s very important to do your own research and find organizations that you really believe in.
