Have you ever been on an urban hike? I’ve been known to take long walks, and I love it as a way to explore new and familiar cities, find power in putting one foot in front of the other, plus gain mental clarity from the opportunity to get grounded. I’ve loved my long walks as an opportunity to clear my mind. Currently living without a car in the suburbs, I take long walks often to get to know the city and to get to places I’m used to going on foot like Whole Foods.
Walking is freeing for me in the same way that running is, so I’ve been loving that since it’s a little hot for my usual longer runs. Walking takes the pressure for mile times away and allows me to focus on the scenery and eventually getting to my destination. If you’re located in the city or in the suburbs, I’d encourage you to embrace a little urban hiking, even 15 minutes of walking helps me clear my mind.
When I’ve got a bit more time on the weekends, I love taking the time to get out of my direct area to enjoy nature especially now. I love a good hike, and we are so lucky in the Northeast to have so many amazing ones! I’m so used to calculating the distances from NYC, but I know we’re traveling by car now throughout the US so wanted to give you a bit more insight into some of the best hikes in the Northeast. I chose four cities as a start, but there are so many more options depending on your location!
Including links to the trails so you can also review the latest on any closures or adjustments due to the current times.
NYC Area: Lemon Squeeze is one of my faves ever!
