We started a revolution this year, we are closer than ever to change. Black Lives Matter is not just a phrase, it’s my life. We must move forward and focus on actionable next steps. Everyone is important and we all have a role to play in the revolution–probably better called an evolution. This isn’t a passing fad but the world changing around us, for the better. Everyone has to find their unique role in all of this, and mine is to continue to share my lived experience and resources to help people continue to show up for the historically oppressed.
I’m so excited about the launch of ACIV-ISM with Taylor Rae Almonte– a quick conversation about wanting to continue the conversation around Antiracism in the US turned into the launch of a 4 week Antiracism wellness program. For the two of us, movement has been a key way that we’ve been processing all that’s happening in the world. My workouts are not just physical, but they’re self-care moments that are crucial mentally. Taylor and I are both truly passionate about creating a safe space for continued learning, but we felt like there were so many complex, long resources that weren’t digestible and didn’t come with a safe space. We crafted this program to cover the basics with specific key resources that were selected to account for multiple learning styles. The program is designed to go back to basics so that the action steps moving forward are even more clear. Within the 4 weeks, everyone will be learning but also developing antiracist habits that should continue after the program ends.
The best way to continue the conversation is literally to have spaces that allow for discussion and exploration as well as a simplified list of resources to hold people accountable– not just for taking them in, but truly digesting the material. With that, we provide movement basics to set everyone up for success in their home spaces (COVID ain’t going anywhere) and to allow for movement (with correct form) to be a form of self-care. We’re offering a unique blend of movement education and anti-racism education that works for all levels and will allow for you to build a strong foundation within the 4 week time frame.
How it works:
Every Sunday, you’ll get an email with the coming week’s focus, everything will be on ACTIV-ISM.COM.
There will be 5 workouts and 5 Anti-racism action steps per week. Each workout and Anti-racism step is designed to fit into your life so they’re all resources that should take an hour at most to read/listen/watch and all workouts are 15-20 minutes.
The action steps will include something to read, listen to, watch, support, and share.
We’ll have weekly Zoom happy hours each Thursday at 7pm EST featuring guests who can add to our conversations about the given week’s topic.
The Community board offers a safe space for questions and discussions which will be available 24/7 online.
Each week we will donate to a spotlight social justice organization.
We will celebrate the end of the program with giveaways with an emphasis on amazing Black-owned businesses.
