Chicago, famously known for its vibrant culinary scene, is once again embracing diversity and celebrating the rich tapestry of flavors during this year’s Chicago Black Restaurant Week from Feb 11-25. This annual event, now in its 8th year, is a remarkable showcase of the city’s diverse and thriving Black-owned culinary establishments.
For a brief history, in 1926 Dr. Carter G. Woodson established the second week of February as “Negro History Week” to commemorate the remarkable achievements of the Black community. This week served as a vital platform to honor the legacy and contributions of Black individuals throughout history.
In homage to Dr. Woodson’s profound impact, Chicago Black Restaurant Week was launched during the second week of February in 2016, debuting on Windy City Live. This deliberate timing ensures that Dr. Carter G. Woodson’s legacy remains at the forefront of our minds as we celebrate the achievements of the Black community through the culinary delights of Chicago’s Black-owned restaurants.
